The model and the design of the current fixture lists were decided by a majority of the clubs in both Bundesliga divisions. HBL GmbH, in consultation with the HBL Executive Committee, had obtained the opinions of all 39 clubs based on different match schedule models for the 2020/21 season. On this basis, the game plan was drawn up in its current form. This includes the increase in LIQUI MOLY HBL from 18 to 20 clubs as a result of the Corona pandemic, as well as the expansion of the 2nd HBL from 18 to 19 clubs.
