review: THW KIEL WINS PIXUM SUPER CUP 2022 AFTER A NAIL-BITING THRILLER

THW Kiel is the winner of the Pixum Super Cup for the third time in a row. In a high-class and high-scoring match, the reigning defending champions beat SC Magdeburg 36:33 (16:16). Right in the opening phase, the club from Kiel built up an 8-goal lead before Magdeburg fought its way back. From now on it was a game of equals. In the end, it was Thomas Mrkva, goalkeeper of Kiel, who held a 7-meter shot in the 59th minute and decided a hard-fought game for his team. Nikola Bilyk was the top scorer with eight goals and Niklas Landin qualified as the MVP of the game with 13 saves.

Next year, too, the new season will traditionally be ushered in with a match between the German champion and the DHB-Pokal winner. The venue will be the PSD BANK DOME Düsseldorf .

history: THE PIXUM SUPER CUP, A COMPLETE SUCCESS

From 2018 to 2023, the Pixum Super Cup will be held at the PSD BANK DOME (formerly ISS DOME) in Düsseldorf, which holds more than 10,000 spectators. The event premiere, which was held on August 22, 2018, was a great success thanks to the cooperation with the sports city of Düsseldorf.

The match between the German champion and the DHB-Pokal winner for the Super Cup has been an integral part of the LIQUI MOLY HBL's schedule since 1994. The competition's debut saw THW Kiel and SG Wallau-Massenheim face off. The Super Cup turned out to be a complete success, thrilling the public and bringing handball back to the center of attention at the start of the season. Although the surprise winner of the premiere was SG Wallau-Massenheim, the opponent from Kiel at the time is still the undisputed record winner. In 21 appearances, the Zebras have lifted the trophy eleven times.

The Pixum Super Cup will also take place in the PSD BANK DOME in the sports city of Düsseldorf in 2023. Pixum also extended its contract with Handball-Bundeliga GmbH until 2024 and will continue to support the "strongest league in the world" as an official "print and photo partner".
